Redefining Islamic Education
Welcome to First Words

islamepedia is the first Islamic Encyclopedia written at three levels, in simple and plain English and graded manner, specifically for the benefit of young Muslims. islamepedia will also benefit Non-Muslims greatly by providing them a deep insight into Islam.

Initially islamepedia may look a little different because here Arabic terms take priority over their translations. This is done to save the original Arabic terminology from getting extinct in non-Arabic speaking world.

In islamepedia, you will find many terms from the Qur-“an explained in simple terms. Many Ayat (Verses) of the Qur-“an quoted in a particular context, also pass on other valuable information to the reader.

Other stories are about Rusul (Messengers), Islamic rites and rituals, Islamic practices and prayers, battles and Books, Angels and anecdotes, people and places, and many more pertinent names, terms, events and things connected with Islam and its history.

islamepedia may look tautological (needlessly repetitious) to some of our readers. We have deliberately repeated basic facts in many stories with the only objective to complete each story in itself because in most cases reading of this book will take place in a non-linear and random fashion, where readers may pick-up only a few stories at a time.

Most stories of islamepedia about people are centric to the last Messenger of Allah Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم.

In this work, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم is mostly referred to as the Messenger of Allah Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. It is out of shear respect to him that I had refrained from writing his name just as Muhammad; following the directives from Allah (God Almighty).

Qul “in kana “aba-“ukum wa-“abna-“ukum wa-“ikhwanukum wa-“azwajukum wa-‘ashiratukum wa-“amwalun iqtaraftumuha wa-tijaratun takhshawna kasadaha wa-masakinu trdawnaha “ahabba “ilaykum mina Allahi wa-Rasulihi wa-jihadin fi sabilihi fatarabbasu hatta ya-“tiya Allahu bi-“amrihi (قلى) waAllahu la yahdi al-qawma al-fasiqina Say: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your kindred, the wealth that you have gained, the commerce in which you fear a decline, and the dwellings in which you delight are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger, and striving hard and fighting in His Cause, then wait until Allah brings about His Decision (torment). And Allah guides not the people who are Al-Fasiqun (the rebellious, disobedient to Allah). Surah (Chapter) at-Taubah (The Repentance) 9:24

Most stories of islamepedia have references from the Qur-“an and Ahadith (Sayings of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), the only two sources of Islamic knowledge. Additional sources are taken from widely accepted books of Islamic history.

Arabic Ayat (Verses) and their English transliteration and their meanings of the translation in English are also included.

English Translation of the meanings of the Noble Qur’an in the English language referenced here are by Dr. Muhammad Taqui-ud-Din Al-Hilali, Formerly Professor of Islamic Faith and Teachings, Islamic University, Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan, Formerly Director, University Hospital, Islamic University, Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, Published by King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Qur’an, Madinah, KSA.

Simplified Transliteration of the Qur-“anic Ayat (Verses) in English is my own humble effort.
